Heritage
The Bible Presbyterian Church was founded in 1937 by Carl McIntire and allies who had left the northern Presbyterian church in the fundamentalist-modernist battles alongside J. Gresham Machen — and then separated from Machen's new church within a year of its founding. The dividing questions were premillennialism, which the Bible Presbyterians wished to protect, and total abstinence from alcohol, which they wished to require, along with a more militant separatism. McIntire's long radio and publishing career made the small church's voice much larger than its rolls. The body has since experienced its own divisions, and remains small.
Theological family
Westminster Calvinism with fundamentalist distinctives: the inerrant Scriptures, the Westminster Standards (amended to allow premillennial eschatology), personal separation including total abstinence, and ecclesiastical separation from apostasy and from bodies deemed compromised.

Presbyterian: elders in session, presbytery and synod, on a small scale that keeps its courts close to its congregations.

Traditional Presbyterian worship — hymns, prayer, and lengthy expository preaching — plain in form and earnest in tone.

A preserved specimen of a real and consequential American position — militant separatist Presbyterianism — whose questions (when must a Christian separate, and from whom?) the wider church still cannot avoid, however differently it answers them.
Commonly confused with
With the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, from which it parted in 1937-38 — the OPC kept Old School confessionalism and Christian liberty on alcohol, the Bible Presbyterians took the fundamentalist path; the two remain distinct in ethos to this day.
