Heritage
The Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) arose from a division within the Free Church of Scotland in 2000, its ministers and congregations holding to the church's constitution as they understood it. The Free Church line itself descends from the great Disruption of 1843, when a third of the Church of Scotland walked out over state interference. A small number of congregations in the United States — RCMS 2020 counted 5 — stand with the Continuing body, carrying Highland Presbyterian worship and discipline to American soil.
