Heritage
The Free Reformed Churches of North America are the North American counterpart of the Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerken in the Netherlands — the stream that continued the 1834 Secession's piety when others merged in 1892. Dutch postwar immigrants planted these congregations, mostly in Ontario with a presence in Michigan and beyond, keeping close ties to the Dutch mother church and her theological school heritage.
Theological family
Confessional Reformed — the Three Forms of Unity, inerrant Scripture — in the experiential (bevindelijke) tradition: doctrine preached so that the congregation examines how God actually works grace in the soul, distinguishing true faith from its counterfeits.

Reformed church order: local consistories of elders and deacons, a synod binding the congregations, ministers trained in the tradition's own institutions and in cooperation with kindred bodies.

The Free Reformed churches help preserve for the wider church the old Reformed art of applicatory preaching — sermons that press doctrine into self-examination — an art most of Protestantism has thinned out.
Commonly confused with
With the Heritage Reformed Congregations and Netherlands Reformed Congregations, neighboring experiential Dutch Reformed bodies with different Dutch parent streams; the distinctions are real to insiders and nearly invisible to everyone else.
Range of views inside it
Congregations vary in strictness and in generational transition from Dutch heritage; the tradition's doctrine and worship are substantially uniform.
