Heritage
Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries was founded in Lagos in 1989 by Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, a molecular geneticist trained in Nigeria and Britain, from a prayer meeting in his living room. It grew explosively around a distinctive emphasis: deliverance — prayer that confronts spiritual bondage directly — and the formation of every member as a "prayer warrior." Its prayer manuals and all-night meetings shaped a whole idiom of African Christian prayer. US branches serve Nigerian and wider African communities in many cities under the international headquarters.
Theological family
Pentecostal with a holiness ethic and a developed theology of spiritual warfare: the reality of demonic opposition taken with full seriousness, deliverance ministered through prayer and fasting, alongside salvation, sanctification and healing. With other Nigerian-founded bodies, especially the RCCG and Deeper Life — shared diaspora and idiom, but MFM's deliverance focus is its own; and with the older Aladura churches, whose white garments and instruments of prophecy MFM does not share.
