First Lutheran Church is part of the Lutheran family of churches in The American Church Story. 880 congregations of the Lutheran family gather across California — 15,919 across the United States on The Church Map.
Lutherans put the gospel back into ordinary hands — Scripture in the language people actually spoke, and hymns the congregation itself was allowed to sing. That the church is saved by grace through faith, and that the whole assembly sings, are now the inheritance of nearly every Protestant church in America.

The community around First Lutheran Church
Within a few blocks of these doors, more than 2 in 10 renting households pay over half of everything they earn just to keep a roof over them. About a third describe their own health as fair or poor, and about a third of households aren't sure there will be enough to eat. That is 2,100 neighbors — and some of them are already in these pews.
Pray for the families one rent increase away from moving, and for this church to know their names.
