Immanuel Lutheran Church

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a Lutheran church at 149-40 11th Avenue in New York, NY 11357. It is one of 3,431 churches in New York, and one of 90 Lutheran congregations in the city.

Immanuel embraces Jesus’ words in Matthew 28, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church. . . In years past, we have been called “the Church with a Lighted Cross,” because many years ago, pilots to and from LaGuardia, used our church to direct their planes to runway number 22. When the church steeple failed to light, a pilot from LaGuardia Field called to ask whether we intended lighting it again. We have been in the community since December 26, 1894! Since then, Immanuel has been a place of learning, healing, teaching and guiding our community-at-large by proclaiming the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ in an ever changing world.

Immanuel Lutheran Church is part of the Lutheran family of churches in The American Church Story. 525 congregations of the Lutheran family gather across New York — 15,755 across the United States on The Church Map.

Lutherans put the gospel back into ordinary hands — Scripture in the language people actually spoke, and hymns the congregation itself was allowed to sing. That the church is saved by grace through faith, and that the whole assembly sings, are now the inheritance of nearly every Protestant church in America.
